21st-Oct-2009 12:16 pm - No MFF fer me
AyCee Icon
So my request for time off was denied yesterday. Im a little pissed since I put in for the time off two months in advance. Despite being at where I work for going on 5 months now with not a single day off, I guess that that doesn't count for much. I haven't accrued enough time off yet to go. So, no MFF for me this year. Have fun at it everyone!

Just figured I'd update this thing since I haven't done it in forever. I'm still alive and all that.

I've just been working since June 15 at my new job. It's alright. I definitely can't see myself there forever, but it's hopefully a transient position until something more aligned with my interests can be found.

I've been working on a few side projects as well. I've been getting back into writing a bit, but it's been slow-going at best. I don't have a lot of time outside work and my self-imposed gym/workout regimen. I guess it's really still sitting on the drawing board. I'm having a little trouble getting started. I might try a short story to see if I can get the characters going.

Aside from writing, I'm currently working on a few other projects that I'm keeping under wraps until they're complete, lest I never finish them at all, so that less is expected of me and I would only let myself down if I theoretically give up on something. If any of this stuff actually pans out, I'll be happy.

I've been doing a fair amount of cooking lately. I really enjoy it.

I made my first casserole ever. It's a chicken-chili casserole using a variety of cheeses and beans. The casserole is layered which was pretty fun to lay out.

Just tonight, I made some tuna melts. I dunno why but it's been in my head a little while to make them. I used tuna, a little mayo, cream cheese, and lemon juice and topped the bread with the tuna mixture and sprinkled some colby cheese over them. Set over to 350 for 10 minutes and presto.

Since I saw someone else post up something they had cooked, I figured that I'd do the same for kicks.

Here's what I made for dinner last week.

Lemon Zest Chicken Stir Fry over Jasmine rice.

Everything was made from scratch. Nothing prepared in advance here. I even made my own lemon zest!

Peace ya'll!

So it looks like I'm going to be making it up to AC for a little bit. I'm planning on leaving on Thursday before after work and staying until at least midday Sunday, unless I get Monday off in which case I'll be leaving then.

More importantly, who wants to hang out and stuff? Hit me up on heeere.

1st-Jun-2009 07:40 pm - Post MS E3 stuff
So as promised and as I wait for Ubisoft to start at the top of the hour, I figured I'd put down how I was feeling about things.

Microsoft:

Rock Band: The Beatles  -  I really don't play Rock Band nor do I listen to the Beatles so I wasn't too excited. The intro cinematic to this was really cool though and I'll be trying to find that online.

Tony Hawk: Ride  -  I haven't played a Tony Hawk in a while. The new controller seems pretty interesting to me. I'd be interested in seeing how it works in the IRL, but I'm not going to go and buy it.

Modern Warfare 2  -  I'm so pumped for this one myself. I really, really loved the first and sunk a whooole lot of time into multiplayer. I will definitely be getting this one when it drops. It has the same heart-pounding action sequences the series is known for.

Final Fantasy XIII  -  So they got some of Squeenix out there for this one. That's always good. I haven't really been that into the Final Fantasy series for a while now, but I'll keep an open mind about that game. I like that there didn't appear to be a loading time between the cinematic and the battle scene. Thats a very nice addition.

Shadow Complex  -  An interesting looking Metroid+blood+UE3 game. It honestly didn't excite me that much, but if it reviews well, I might check it out.

Joy Ride  -  A simple, stupid game for X360. It's free so I'm sure it will end up on my hard drive.

Crackdown 2  -  I loved the first for the co-op and super powers. I hope that they keep these aspects and expand on them in this game. The video got me pumped up for it a bit which is good, but I'll be interested in seeing how it plays. Also, something odd was popping out of the sewer behind the agent that looks like it could be interesting.

Left4Dead 2  -  I'm sure that just like everyone else, I'm surprised they're making another one of these already. I was talking with one of my friends who didn't like the characters very much, but I actually did like them. I also like the day time maps. It seems to be a little less scary than the first was supposed to be, which I'm ok with. Also, the apparent increased emphasis on melee weaponry has interested me.

Splinter Cell: Conviction  -  This game seems like it might reboot the Splinter Cell series. It got stale to me a bit after the first two games and I've only just played the rest since then. The game has a whooole lot of style to it. Just watch the video for it.

Forza 3  -  Looks absolutely amazing. I'm hoping that it is the Gran Tourismo 5 killer it is supposed to be. Turn 10 Studios sold me on the Forza franchise after the first one and this third installment looks more polished than ever with a huge car line up with photorealistic interiors.

Halo 3 ODST  -  Of couse I'm excited about this. It's fucking Halo. It seems to have more story elements in it than the previous since you are no longer the super quiet, steely badass that is the Master Chief. ODST's are the shit.

Halo: Reach  -  Unbelievable surprise announcement. I loved the book. I hope that it translates well to a game.

Alan Wake  -  Holy crap are they still making this? They've been developing this forever. Fortunately for them, it really looks very, very exciting.

Metal Gear Rising - I wonder how hard Kojima had to bite his tongue to be there after he badmouthed Microsoft and the Xbox forever.

Twitter/Facebook  -  An interesting partnership, but it seems to be useful if that is your thing.

Project Natal  -  This is what I had been looking forward to the most after all the new game announcements. This is the 360's motion controller. It was absolutely amazing to see in motion, just watch the videos. I can't do it justice by talking about it other than voice recognition, sound recognition, and full-body motion recognition.

Love it or hate it, E3 2009 begins today. I'm going to be watching the live coverage on G4 starting at 1:00PM EST today. I'll be posting my reactions/reviews/hype points throughout the day. I hope the presentations here are amazing this year on all sides. (**warning** Strong MS bias :-p )

Crysis 2 has been announced for PC, X360, and PS3. I don't know how I feel about that yet. I was always interested in the first and wanted to test it out on my new PC, but I ended up not doing it because of the DRM mess that is on it. I'm not sure if the DRM is still there or they've patched to remove it, but I've never taken the time to go back and look.

Microsoft's press conference is up at 1:25PM EST. Let's hope it is as good as I hope it is.

So I have a job for now as of yesterday. It's a full-time term position that will last six months. I'll be moving back to Raleigh here in a few weeks and I'll be staying there at least until my term position is over and I hopefully switch to full-time there or find another, more permanent job. I guess I'm glad that I found something given its probably the worst job market for new college graduates in a century. I've got some stuff to pay off and some stuff to buy so I'm glad that I'll be able to get on that finally.

Other than that, con status:
AC is up in the air right now, leaning towards unlikely to attend, but I'll see what I'll be able to pull together.

Getting ready to start a project here in a few weeks. I'll post pictures when I have more.
